The Swing and The Bridge
Leila Tanskanen (Koli) and assistant Harri Huttunen
The basis of the art work is movement. For a great part of our lives we move horizontally on the ground. The swing goes upwards. Swinging is an age-old way to relax and calm down. In the old days, villages used to have a village swing where people met. As a basis for the work I have also reconstructed an old and abandoned garden swing. Bridges have also served as a meeting place and a dance floor. Swings and bridges connect people even today. I live in Koli, and my everyday walks to the shop go along a path over a bridge.
